Foundational
Beginnings
Since its founding in early 2004, generous donors
have pledged more than $1 million to establish a scholarship endowment
fund. The Foundation has also been granted the opportunity to manage
the J. V. Peters Scholarship Endowment. The Foundation awarded $30,000
in scholarships to 20 students in September 2004. Terry Finney, Foundation
president, says the organization plans to continue raising money so
that it can offer scholarships to many more qualifi ed students. The
mission of the UCA Foundation is to advance the endeavors of UCA by
generating contributions to support student scholarships. The Foundation
is about people — an organization of board members, alumni,
and friends who care deeply about Christian education and seek its
advancement by encouraging and securing private support for UCA students.
Professional
Management
The UCA Foundation is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)3 nonprofi t
organization. It is overseen by a 10-member volunteer board from across
the country, including a former NASDAQ board member, a retired Superior
Court judge, and many other professionals. They all share is a passion
for youth and are committed to Christian education.
High
Standards
To ensure compliance with the highest professional and ethical standards,
the board has implemented policies and procedures for fi nancial management.
Washington Trust Bank manages Foundation assets with guidance from the
board and its attorney. The Foundation enjoys a cooperative relationship
with UCA’s governing board and with the Upper Columbia Conference
of Seventh-day Adventists, UCA’s parent organization.
Provision for Excellence
Positively influencing a young adults life leaves a legacy in this world.
Foundation board members have been privileged to hear stories from the
students about how UCA has provided spiritual perspective, a nurturing
home, lifelong friends, and a renewed passion for life. The Foundation
is connecting students with UCA’s mission to inspire young men
and women to “develop their physical, mental and spiritual powers,”
develop a “lifechanging relationship with God,” and participate
in “the highest service for others.”
