Is Your Name on a Cart?
It’s that time of year again. The snow is almost gone from the
greens at Circling Raven Golf Course. Spring must be right around the
1st or 2nd green! Are you ready? Will your name be on the back of one
the 72 carts waiting for us? Find your calendar and circle Friday, May
4th. Clear your appointment books and make plans to start Alumni weekend
with a birdie on your 1st hole at Circling Raven! Thanks to all of you
who supported this event last year, we more than doubled our numbers
from the 1st year! This year, with each of you returning, plus about
10 new foursomes, we will reach our full capacity of 144 golfers. We
continue to hope that this will soon become your favorite charity event
of the year.
Funds for Scholarships
The Upper Columbia Academy Foundation exists solely for one purpose:
to raise funds to provide scholarships
to all students who might not be able to attend UCA without fi nancial
help. Your support, coupled with enerous
donors and wise investments the past two years have blessed our Foundation
greatly! This past year alone we
were able to award 40 scholarships in varying amounts. We are continuing
to work toward an endowment total
that will provide every student requiring assistance with the help needed
to allow them to attend UCA, using
ONLY dividends and earnings from this account. Thank YOU for the part
that you play in this important work.
To create a genuinely profi table charitable event, we rely on your
tax deductible gifts beyond the greens fee.
Here are some ways you can help:
Ways to Help...
• Sponsor a Team/Player — One of our Board
Members has again volunteered to
sponsor the costs for at least two student teams – one from UCA
and one from WWC. We
would love to expand this to include maybe a UCA teachers’ team!
You may also know of
other classmates that would love to come out and play but may need some
fi nancial help.
• Sponsor a Hole — We are continuing our
50% “sale” on the cost of sponsoring a
hole. Most of our generous sponsors from last year are already agreeing
to continue
their hole sponsorships. These continuing sponsorships along with the
addition of a
few new donors will enable us to have sponsor advertising on all 18
holes.
• Tax deductible donation — in addition
to the greens fee this year we are requesting
that each golfer contribute an additional $50 to help defray the costs
of the tournament,
lunch, etc. Anything left over will go to the scholarship fund.
Greens Fees
This year the “early bird” greens fee rate through April
15 is $80. This special Circling Raven pricing includes your golf cart
(with state-of-the art GPS tracking) which will carry you on a seven-mile
journey through pine forests, wetlands, grasslands, and oh yes, 55 sand
traps! A fabulous buff et lunch, a great gift bag, and tons of fun and
prizes are also included. **Please note that after April 15 the greens
fee rate will be $90.
Start Time
Due to increasing demands on the course (thanks to being named in the
“Top 10 Best Resort Courses in America” in Golf Week’s
2006 survey!) we face a small timing challenge this year. We need to
have our shotgun start lined up and ready to ALL start play at 8:30
A.M. SHARP!
With teams starting on every hole at the same time, late golfers create
a huge nightmare for everyone. PLEASE plan to arrive in plenty of time
to be checked in and fi nd your assigned carts before 8:30. Plan an
earlier arrival if you wish to spend time on the 25-acre practice facilities
(unlimited practice balls are included in your greens fee).
Accomodations
We have been able to secure 15 deluxe rooms for Thursday night at the
on-site resort hotel for $62.95 + tax. This would give those that have
to travel a good night’s rest and only a long block’s drive
to the clubhouse! It might be a good place to stay even if you are not
golfi ng, as it is about a 20-mile drive just east of the academy and
a good deal less than the $85 rates being quoted in Spokane. You will
need to request one of these rooms ASAP in you want one! *** We have
just been informed that many Spokane facilities (Hampton Inn for sure)
are already Sold Out for the Alumni Weekend.
If you are planning to stay at the Resort please call 1-800-523-2464
and identify yourself as a part of the UCA Foundation Group. If there
are any problems, ask to speak with Melissa Campbell, as she is the
Group Sales Director. Please note that most phones will answer: “Coeur
d’Alene Casino” as all extensions go through the one 800
number. The hotel has separate entrances and there is no gambling in
the hotel lobbies or facilities. We have found it to be a quiet and
very nice place to stay… there are indoor pools, spa, and great
eating facilities. The breakfast buff et alone is worth the drive.
Thank You for Your Support!
Thanking you in advance for your continued support. See you on the 4th
of May! Let’s count on warm sunshine, 36 great foursomes and a
great day for the UCA Foundation!
Visit the Course Online
To whet your appetite for some great golf, please visit the Circling
Raven Course Tour to see each of the 18 holes. The course looks
even better than last year! Remember this is a scramble format (best
ball play) so EVERYONE counts!!
Sincerely,
Doug Wells
